orange in your dining room not just for halloween

Orange…
This week I had a daring client go for a custom sectional for her living room in orange! How cool is that? We are mixing it up with other colours too, but the orange chenille on that sectional sofa is going to look so warm and inviting. Glad she convinced me on that!

With Halloween just a month away, the colour is popping up everywhere so why not consider it for your dining room as an easy place to try it out. Too colour shy to go for orange chairs, walls or a rug? I understand; it’s a big commitment. But then why not, at least for this season, get some orange napkins, or a runner or a vase and pop that into your dining room. It goes with everything and is truly a happy colour. You’ll see, you’ll smile when you pass by! I know I do when I pass my daughter’s bedroom – it’s a bright orange, her favourite colour.
:D

rustic white spaces

I love the way the contrast of dark and light work here with all the texture. The space on the right has rustic charm with its old brick fireplace and the space on the left has that lovely ‘coffee table’ and charming old sign.
Have fun with contrasts of natural woods and rustic elements when choosing white as your theme.

jars – mason jars and other jars for storage

Jars with tight lids are so versatile! Look how amazing they work on an open shelf for kitchen storage. I love it! And how practical too as they are so easily cleaned and are air tight for food staples, not to mention how inexpensive they are. Mixing up old ones with new ones and in all different sizes is a nice touch too.

Consider them for your bathroom storage too – Q-Tips, Cotton Balls, Soaps…
And for the workroom – nails, screws, screwdrivers…

Any other ideas?

perfect white kitchen – trough sink

Sometimes you don’t need words to make a perfect statement.

commercial lighting installations

I finally walked over to my neighbour a couple of houses away while outside doing gardening. She moved in almost a year ago, gasp!! So we both did require an apology for not having introduced ourselves before now. It turns out she is lovely and super friendly. And within seconds she was showing me around her house and all the changes she had made – they were great! New bathrooms, fresh paint…

I was in that house before, both with the previous owners, of which I was part of their basement renovation, and the owners previous to them as well. It is so nice to see the transformations and what each family has enhanced in the home… the evolution of a home. I love it!

And then, as it turns out, this neighbour, Deborah, does lighting installations! Go figure, a very close by resource for me. She does mostly commercial spaces. Check out her site here for all your commercial lighting needs – Gottesman Associates. This photo is of a building that she was part of the lighting project in – cool!

a toronto basement bathroom renovation

A client of mine is almost finished her basement renovation and she is most proud of her bathroom at this point… and I can see why! It came out gorgeous! She found this old sideboard in a second-hand shop and we had it retrofitted with this gorgeous oval bowl sink from Taps. I love the contrast of new with old. The basket-weave marble flooring and crystal accessories, including the table lamp, add just the right amount of class and femininity.

colourful green living room

I love the way there are so many traditional elements in this living room yet at first glance it seems so modern. The vibrant green and modern design of the flooring are the first things you notice. I love the mix – how fun! Thanks House Beautiful for showing this off.
