alliteration in design

Repeating shapes in your interior design helps the eye feel comfortable and the room cohesive. This doesn't mean it has to be literal, but a few subtle repetitive shapes can make a scattered room suddenly feel connected. My personal favourite of late - circles! I like to use the literary term Alliteration to describe this method of interior design. And do note, it's often a subtle thing so if you embrace this design rule, do it with caution. If done right though, it's pretty amazing! Check out some great examples here.

lots of round shapes connects this otherwise busy room

here you see lots of rectangles, with a hit of round on the window ledge for contrast

i love the way the little square shaped nail heads and wall treatment connect with the square orange nightstands - subtle but effective

here stripes and triangles marry well for a high contrast geometric space

tiny hexagon on the floor, large and wild hexagon for a backsplash

the oval tiles connect gorgeously with the oval tub

the striped floor is subtlely repeated in the stripe in the fabric

the diamond pattern is repeated on the wall of built-ins, the glass fronted cabinets and even in the backsplash
