the classic subway tile turned on its head

Naturally I am asked a lot about tile options for my clients' kitchens and bathrooms, and while I am always wanting to experiment and suggest wild and trendy things, it is the client that ultimately has to live with the end result every day, and thus the classic white subway tile is pondered. Always classic, although some might even think boring, there are ways to approach this simple tile to make it more interesting. Here are a few ideas that will make you look twice at this simple white piece of clay, no matter the size. Pretty creative and awesome, right?

counter and backsplash match-up in kitchen

Can't decide if you want the gorgeous granite slab for your counters, or the fabulous tiled backsplash... or both? Think carefully on this one and do consider keeping one much simpler than the other. If both are extravagant and different from each other, you may find it too busy once you start putting your essentials on the counter. Here some great combinations for a peaceful coexistence:

15- irish green granite white backsplash
15 - wolf stove, shaker cabinets, wood island, marble backsplash
15 - mosaic backsplash and plain counter
15 - granada tiles
15 - colourful backsplash behind stove
