is the eat-in kitchen obsolete or is it the future of kitchens?

With formal living rooms finding its way to the chopping block as we continue to move towards the great room (family room and living room in one), what is happening with the formal dining room and the eat-in kitchen? Is it the same dispute and are we moving towards the open concept, some dub the Country Kitchen?

A true eat-in kitchen is shown here, where you can have formal and casual meals alike.

What do you have in your home? Do you have a dining room as well as a full eat-in kitchen? What about stools by the kitchen counter? And banquettes are ever so popular too - is that the new eat-in kitchen?

As I continue to think about the future home I see small living continuing to take a leap forward and thus the eat-in kitchen becoming one with the dining room. This can take on many forms of which a sampling is here below (agree, some really not so small but the concept is there). Do you have a favourite?
