10 great ideas for the next couple of weeks...

What do we do now? I say, continue to dream about your decorating desires and continue to make plans for those renovations. This won’t last forever and now, more than ever, our houses are truly our havens. We need to dream!! So maybe, besides the dreaming, you can get to a few things you’ve been putting off around the house, because even small changes can really make your house feel new, fresh and happy again!

Here are ten things you might like to consider for the next couple of weeks since they are things you can do on your own:

  1. Recaulk your bathtub - is your caulking looking a little black in the corners? Why not try an online tutorial on how to do this and order the right caulking online from a place like Lowe’s.

  2. Paint a room - yes, you can get paint! Paint stores are brilliantly taking payment over the phone and having your paint waiting for you for no contact pick-up.

  3. Organize your desk - working from home is likely a new phenomenon for some, but considering a few ways to corral your items might be helpful. It can be as simple as using an old mug for pens; a seldom used tray for papers; or even a muffin tray for all the little things that need to find a home.

  4. Start some seedlings for your garden. It will likely not be the year to get vegetable plants from the nursery this year, so why not try starting from seed.

  5. Clean out a cupboard - I know, this is not very inventive, but it is so rewarding so I wanted to throw this one in, right smack in the middle.

  6. Colour code your books - many will say this is just silly as they prefer to have their books by category, but if you’re staring at your bookcase all day these days, why not try it? It really does look very pretty.

  7. Set up a really great backdrop for your Facetime or Zoom chats or meetings! Move your favourite piece of art behind your computer/camera/iPad…, or line up some plants or other favourite things. Whatever feels good to you is a good option. You’ll feel so much better about being in front of the camera if you like your backdrop.

  8. Make a photo-book online from your last trip with the help of a software program. Mixbook, Shutterfly, … just google search to see which one suits you best.

  9. Turn your rug 180 degrees. If you have a rug that is handmade, there is always a dark side and a light side so if you flip it, it will look different. If it’s not handmade, flip it anyway so you can get the same wear on both sides of the rug.

  10. And lastly, start a search online for something fun and new for your space. Something small is easy to order and can really brighten your day. Consider a new pillow; throw blanket; serving tray (so you can bring your food to different rooms in the house for a change of scenery); a new doormat; or even just a pretty scented candle.
